This project aimed to reshape the Oranienplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Upon exploring the problems surrounding the urban and landscape design of the square, we came up with ideas for rebuilding it in a way that both preserve the heritage and function of the square as a political space and also makes it more welcoming and enjoyable for locals without adding to gentrification.
The concept was based on the removal of one lane of traffic, redirecting it to the surrounding streets. the lower part was conceptualised as a hill that ends in a staircase also suitable for sitting. The upper part includes a big square that allows for demonstrations and events, as well as a sort of maze consisting of little "islands" (raised beds) that offer different spaces that invite to dwell.
